Lunch Trance – 2023-03-29 – Newsflash

Last show of March, and that also means last show of the first quarter of 2023. Yes, a whopping 25% of this year is already over. If you were planning to do anything specific this year, now would be the time to get your preparations well underway!

And that brings us, in a nice non-sequitur way, directly to the favourite track of this week. It’s this gem by Ronski Speed and Lucy Saunders, remixed by Ferry Tayle:

An honorable mention and a close second in my favouriteness (favourity? Favourationality?) was Addicted to Love by Driftmoon. Maybe it will be undisputed next week! 😀

It may come as no surprise to you but I highly recommend listening to this week’s show again. Luckily modern technology allows you to do this completely at your own leisure.

The next show will happen on Wednesday, April 5, at 🕖 19:00 CET/UTC+2.

There were a couple of names I was looking forward to this week, and there were things that I did not see coming. Let’s start with the most important thing: this week’s favourite track!

It’s A Bedford™!

Of course it’s not a coincidence. I also think it’s not really a coincidence that this track is in this week’s #1 spot. 😄

Other tracks I couldn’t wait to play: Radahn by Hausman (last week’s favourite track); Flashing Lights (Robbie Seed Remix) by Ashley Wallbridge, Bodine, and John Weber; and Cubicore’s Bifrost. They all turned out to be great!

And then there were the unexpected bangers: Eight 88 by Chris Element (which is in the key of 8B according to Camelot notation – that’s dedication!), and Dominant Space’s XTC.

And then there was Orange Theme 2023 by Ivan Gough & Luke Chables and I have to say that I was not whelmed. It’s still a solid track, don’t get me wrong, but there are remixes of that track that I absolutely adore and this one does not make that list. Well, can’t win them all, I guess. 🙂

So many good reasons to listen to this week’s show again!

The next show will happen on Wednesday, March 29, at 🕖 19:00 CET/UTC+1.

First things first: I renamed the show! 🥳

For a while now I have not actually been playing the “top of the week.” Most of the time I didn’t even play #1! Instead I have gone over to playing the new tracks of the week, together with the new tracks of the last week. That should really help keep the show fresh and whenever you wonder what’s new in the world of trance, you now know where you can get it.

(Right here, in case you didn’t make the connection.)

Also, I’m going to start declaring one of the tracks as the week’s favourite track! This title comes with a glowing recommendation which alone should already tell you everything you need to know. Listen to that track. It’s awesome.

This week’s favourite track is:

And then there were a couple other great tracks, including the one with Richard Bedford! 😍 You should really drop everything and listen to the show right here, right now:

The next show will happen on Wednesday, March 22, at 🕖 19:00 CET/UTC+1.

Lunch Trance – 2023-03-08 – Top of the Week

What a nice, relaxing show with a bunch of new tracks by the likes of Kenny Palmer, Alex M.O.R.P.H., Hiromori Aso, Hel:sløwed & Ava Silver—wait a minute.

I don’t remember playing that one.

What is going on here?! (Image by Pixabay)

Turns out, I didn’t play it!

Story time: I keep my MP3s organized and neatly labeled; artist, track, and remix name all go into the file name. And while the colon (and the ø) of “Hel:sløwed” is a perfectly valid character for file names on macOS, it seems to have gotten lost on its way to the other macOS machine which is responsible for getting music onto the DJ console. Good ol’ rsync is used for that and it doesn’t seem to like the colon too much… and it turns it—seriously, of all the goddamn characters it could it into—a fucking slash! 😠 Which, to be fair, is also a valid character for files on macOS so why is this an issue? Because the Denon DJ software finally is the one who cannot handle it and the file has simply been missing, leading to me not being able to play it. 😥

(Correction: rsync didn’t actually change anything, the file was still there, with a colon right in it. However, as you can read here, macOS at some point used the colon as a path separator and there are layers in macOS that change a colon to a slash, and there are other layers that change slashes to colons! Compatibility shit is really weird. Anyway, the final point of the analysis is still correct: the Denon software couldn’t handle the file and ignored it.)

I’ll make it up to you next time!

Lunch Trance – 2023-03-01 – Top of the Week

Holy crap, tonight was exceptional! There were a number of names among the new entries that I was a bit excited about and I was totally not disappointed. I don’t think I ever marked as many tracks as “I like this!” (the ☆ icon on my trusty spreadsheet) as I did today, and I even discovered a few tracks I really liked among the tracks from last week! Apparently I didn’t pay enough attention then… 😁

The next show will happen on Wednesday, March 8, at 🕖 19:00 CET/UTC+1.
