Story time! I have this wonderful 32” 4k screen (Samsung U32Jsomething) but from the start it has been behaving slightly weird: sometimes it would go black and lose connection to the MacBook (resulting in resolution changes and stuff) and after a few seconds come back and pretend nothing happened. I bought it second-hand so I thought, “well, you get what you pay for” and ignored it because it didn’t happen very often, and usually right after waking the computer up so it was a part of the ritual and thus acceptable.

Last night, however, it started doing it way more often, and most importantly, every time I started an EVE Online client!

I spent the whole evening debugging; I tried swapping cables, USB hubs, computers, everything. In every combination that included the screen, the screen exhibited the faulty behaviour. I didn’t really expect anything else, seeing that it did this already with a different MacBook years ago and has been with me for longer than the USB hubs I have been using with it but, you know, hope dies last.

Anyway. A new screen has been ordered (like, actually new this time) and it will arrive on Friday, when I’m in home office, giving me time to install it properly. 😀

However, that whole episode took away most of the prep time for the show I had scheduled for yesterday evening so the final track selection was a bit rushed when I got home from work earlier. Luckily we only had 14 new entries this week, all of which I played. Take a listen!

Second show with the New And Improved™ Format and I must say, I really like it. It feels more to the point, and it feels way more personal than just playing the charts. I think I’m gonna stick with it, at least until I can think of something even better! 😄

Okay, this will also be a long post so get seated and buckle up! We’re gonna start slowly with this picture that my wife painted two years ago during my Birthday Bash. I already showed it to you back then but my wife made some small alterations (and signed it!) and I did take a better picture of it before the show so please enjoy the new version of this masterpiece:

Oh boy, this was supposed to be quite the special episode and oh, did it turn out special—but not in any way I wanted…

The plan was to play a set from a hotel room at the Baltic Sea because it was my wife’s birthday and we decided to take a short vacation. So last week I tested the equipment which went quite well, and I spend all of Tuesday evening packing up all the stuff.

As you no doubt have noticed, I did not manage to play a show last weekend. I wanted it to be outside, as a change of scenery, but it was raining all weekend long, and I didn’t want to play from the living room so I simply didn’t play at all. However, that still left all the equipment untested so I had to do that today, lest I procrastinate it to the weekend again…

Setting this up was not really a big ordeal, there were no major problems that a reboot didn’t fix, and the hardware itself seems to be working absolutely wonderfully. Nobody reported any problems so I’ll assume there weren’t any. 😁

And during the show there were no complaints, either! ☺️ Unfortunately the hardware itself is not much to look at, it has no blinking lights, no exciting bar graphs, see for yourself:

The top device is the receiver unit for the wireless microphones and while there is a bit of movement on those displays, it is not synced to the music and thus very boring. The soundcard below that is not any better, either, and we don’t talk about the switch below that.

Anyway, the show itself — while technically an absolute marvel — was again rather uneventful. No incoming raids, some chatting was going on (which was lovely), and no large, glaring fuckups from my side. Splendid!

The next show is going to be on next Wednesday, September 28, at 🕖 19:00 CEST/UTC+2. It’s also going to be live from a hotel at the Baltic Sea because it’s my wife’s birthday and we’re taking a short vacation. Because we can!

I might play a show this weekend, in order to test the travel setup that I’m putting together for the show on September 28th which will be broadcast live from a hotel at the Baltic Sea! It’s my wife’s birthday and I will be joining her for a short holiday, away from the big city. I’m quite looking forward to all of those things—testing the setup, the show from the hotel, and not having to work for three days! 😁

Today’s show was rather uneventful… the temperatures were not high enough to stress the encoder, we only had some very short off-camera visits by The New Cat™, and then my intended raid target (@mayor_dj) finished his stream right before I did!

In three weeks, on September 28, I will play a special show from a hotel at the Baltic Sea because it’s my wife’s birthday and we’re making a short holiday. I still need to work out a reduced setup because I have no intention of taking a 48-channel digital mixer with me, a multichannel USB audio card should really be enough… 😀

The extremely high temperatures of the last week seem to be over (for now), neither the video encode nor myself actually needed extra cooling today!

And we had one of the cats visiting today; Die Katze took her rightful place on my chair and napped like a champion while I was playing tunes for you. The other, new cat also made a short appearance, jumping on the couch and then exiting the room to the other side. Still a bit shy but he’ll come around, I’m sure. He is getting more and more cuddly, too! 🥰
